Day Two: The Convention

So here it is. What you've all been waiting for. What happened to Brett at the porn convention?

Well let me tell you...

Nothing.

Nothing happened.

I didn't have to leave because it was too hard to "bounce my eyes", my mind hasn't been polluted with sexual immorality, and I'm not going to be working in the porn industry any time soon.

We began by handing out Bibles and stickers then our team leader said no more; now it's just hand shakes. I felt much more comfortable with the hand shake as it forced a conversation. Not to mention I accidentally stickered a girl's hair. Sorry.

My team leader wanted me to aggressively approach men and start conversations.

As the night progressed I got into more genuine conversations. I even talked with the alleged owner of a local strip club and a dude who looked like Robert Downey Jr.

There were a couple people who just wanted to debate. I would bring them to my team leader and he would reiterate the fact that there is no argument. Only the fact that Jesus loves them.

At one point in time a female performer came over and actually began preaching to us! We were high-fiving her and having a blast.
I feel as though God is giving me a heart that simply wants to connect with people on an authentic level and I'm forgetting all the doctrine, all the procedures and rules, and simply putting the love of Christ first.

You can pray for me as I've discovered Farrah Abraham, former teen mom star and now top industry performer is staying right across the hall from me. Its almost inevitable I will run into her so I'm praying for a female team member from XXXChurch to be with me so they can connect.

Day Two: Set Up

After a great night with fellow XXXChurch blogger and roommate Carl Thomas, we woke up for a nice breakfast and then went to set up.

Set up went smoothly. Our booth has a very open view of the convention. We have a view of most of the stage where strippers and other girls will be.

Our team leader said this is the most open view XXXChurch has ever had. We're considering it a blessing because although it will be more difficult for us men with two cam girls across from us and a slew of LA Direct girls diagonal to us, this means everyone at the convention will have a better view of us.

The biggest help for me is going to be viewing the porn industry in a new light. See porn is bad. It ruins marriages, it captivates people in addiction, and objectifies human beings, but porn is only powerful because we make it out to be some deep dark son of satan-like monster. Our leader, Tim Savage provides perspective with this quote: "Porn is a circus clown masquerading as a war horse."

Well in a few hours I'm bringing Jesus to the circus.

Day 1: Training

Our training session took place at a church that looked more like a university. It literally had its own restaurant with a fountain in it, and security guards who i swore were ex-military.

We started off by going around and answering the question: "In two sentences, what would you expect to see walking into a porn convention?"

My answer: "Plastic surgery. Things I will laugh at when I see them, but cry about later. "

The best answer I heard was, "People from my church" oops...

The training session served to inform us all to be ourselves and make friends. To simply love people because Jesus loved people. No other objective. No secret plan to take over the world; not even the overused "we're going to win people for Jesus"  

Later, Hanging out with a fellow XXXChurch blogger, and one of the founding members of XXXchurch; I realized these people do ministry so much differently from the cumbersome procedure-laden style I'm used to.
In short: I'm going to have my life changed this weekend.

Day one:Arrival

I always laugh when I hear young people say, "I just wanna travel the world." Oh so you enjoy handing over all of your posessions, stripping down to your underwear, spinning around in circles, and doing jumping jacks for the TSA?

Good for you.

I'm running on a solid 4 hours of sleep and have a killer sore throat. My only job this weekend: talk to people. Great!

I was dropped off at the airport by Dad who left me with a hug and "Take some hot pics for me!"

The flight was relatively uneventful save for the hilarious Asian guy who wanted to be best friends with everyone.

I was picked up from the Miami airport by the Savages. Tim and sandi. Tim is a former hip-hop head. He's the team leader and Sandi is actually the founder of Beloved Ministries in Miami, a non-profit dedicated to caring for people on the sex industry.  

I'm currently at the hotel waiting to go up to my room. I had a chance to briefly share my story with Tim and Sandi on the car ride up. Tim told me what to expect when I walk into the convention tomorrow. His brief preview included a story about a see-saw with dildos instead of seats. Its going to be a crazy weekend.

I have training tonight at 7 so ill be posting again after that!

Purpose

As I was eating a delicious lunch with my mentor he presented me with the idea of writing a blog specifically for the days I am in Ft. Lauderdale at the Exxxotica Porn Convention doing outreach.

This blog will serve two main purposes.

First, no doubt I will experience some crazy things, hear some unbelievable stories, and see the wonders of plastic surgery.
I am writing this blog for myself to keep myself sane and accountable to the world.
I will spare no detail unless I feel it could cause someone else to stumble.

Basically, you will be allowed to gaze into the intimate, intricate, inner-workings of my mind as I will do my best to record my emotions, thoughts, and reactions to everything that occurs.

Second, many great people have supported me financially and are supporting me in prayer.
I want all of you to have a daily update of what is going on so you can hear, taste, smell, see, and dare I say feel the amazing things God will be doing as I share the gospel with people in the porn industry and their biggest fans.

Check back in May 31st as I will be arriving in Miami then heading to Ft. Lauderdale for training and the convention.
